The hosts came on our top in our poll to predict the winner of this summer's tournament, with world champions Germany runners up but limited support for Spain

Goal readers have backed France to emerge victorious on home soil at Euro 2016.

Nearly 10,000 people from across the world voted for the team they think will triumph at this summer's tournament, with the hosts accumulating 27 per cent of the votes cast.

They placed ahead of world champions Germany, who finished on 20 per cent, and dark horses Croatia, who claimed 13 per cent.

In fourth place, nine per cent of readers voted for England - ahead of defending champions Spain, who finished in fifth on eight per cent.

Belgium were just 43 votes behind Vicente del Bosque's side and no other country claimed more than five per cent of the total, with Italy and Portugal both hitting that mark.

Votes were also cast for Turkey (four per cent) and Russia (one per cent).

Readers in the United Kingdom largely matched the global predictions, placing France first (32 per cent) followed by Germany (19 per cent) and then England (12 per cent).
