The Best Player of the Tournament reflects on the epic clash between La Celeste and the Black Stars

Uruguay legend Diego Forlan says their dramatic win over Ghana at South Africa 2010 remains his most memorable moment at the Fifa World Cup.

On the verge of being eliminated following a last-gasp penalty awarded to the Black Stars, La Celeste snatched a passage to the semi-finals following a 4-2 success in the eventual shootout.

Asamoah Gyan could have handed Ghana a historic qualification to the semi-finals but missed the spot kick to leave the game 1-1 after extra-time.

Forlan, now retired from international football, played at three World Cup tournaments, the others being Korea/Japan 2002 and Brazil 2014.

"On a team level I’d have to pick the win against Ghana in South Africa [in the quarter-finals in 2010]," the 38-year-old forward told Fifa.com.

"It was a game we almost lost but ended up winning on penalties, amazingly.

"And on a personal note I’d have to go for the end of that World Cup, when I won the Golden Ball as the player of the tournament and finished among the highest scorers."

Ghana striker Dominic Adiyiah saw his goal-bound header slapped off the line by Luis Suarez, resulting in the penalty and a red card for the now Barcelona man.

Television replays, however, showed that the ball crossed the line, and a goal, instead, should have been awarded to the four-time African champions.
