The Black Starlets are hoping to make the global gathering for the first time since 2007

Ghana Under-17 coach Paa Kwesi Fabin has set his sights on securing a World Cup berth when his side participates at the upcoming U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

The Black Starlets are set to return to the continental championship following a four-year absence.

The top four from the African competition qualify automatically for the 2017 Under-17 Fifa World Cup in India.

“It’s been long a time the Black Starlets qualified for the World Cup, so our prime target is to qualify for the World Cup,” Paa Kwesi told Sportscrusader.

“We are preparing adequately for the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations.

“We have played some series of friendly matches and I can say the boys are match ready for the tournament.”

The Starlets will play in Group A, alongside hosts Gabon, Guinea and Cameroon in the tournament, which runs between May 21 and June 4.

Following the withdrawal of Liberia in the first round qualifiers, Ghana secured a narrow 6-5 aggregate victory over Burkina Faso in the second round, before beating Cote d'Ivoire 3-1 after both legs of the final round.

The team's last tournament appearance was at the 2013 Afcon in Morocco, where they suffered a first round exit.

For the global gathering, Ghana's last outing ended in a fourth finish in 2007.
