2018 World Cup: Kwesi Appiah backs Nigeria and Senegal to shine

The Black Stars’ tactician is optimistic that the west Africans can make the continent proud at the global showpiece

Ghana coach, Kwesi Appiah is upbeat that Nigeria and Senegal will pull a surprise in 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia.

The Super Eagles got zoned in Group D alongside Argentina, Croatia and debutants Iceland during the draw ceremony conducted on Friday evening.

While the Lions of Terranga must negotiate their way past Poland, Colombia and Japan to reach the second round of the championship.

With both teams boasting of youngsters in their ranks, the Black Stars gaffer is confident that will work in their favour.

"Most of the African countries at the World Cup have got very young squads. And I believe they can surprise many at the tournament, Appiah told Ghana Soccernet .

"Nigeria and Senegal are doing well with young players who want to achieve something.

"They only need the right mentality for the tournament and they can cause a surprise.”
