The two strongest teams in Group B meet on Thursday with both Germany and Chile having struggled more than they would have expected in their respective opening games.
The world champions were pegged back by Australia in the second half of their game to win by a 3-2 scoreline, while Chile needed two goals in the last nine minutes to beat Cameroon 2-0.
The Copa America winners have brought their strongest squad possible to Russia and that is probably why they are marginal favorites with dabblebet at 8/5 (2.60) to record a win against a youthful and inexperienced Germany. Joachim Low's men, meanwhile, can be backed at 9/5 (2.80) and the draw is offered at 23/10 (3.30).
Both teams clearly have a capacity to score, while defending is not Chile's natural strong point and Germany's backline are relatively inexperienced at international level. The combination of those factors should lead to goals at both ends, with both teams to score offered at just 4/9 (1.44).
Clearly, the bookmakers are not expecting either side to keep a clean sheet, and neither should we. For more appealing odds, the price of 5/4 (2.20) for both teams to score and either to win looks like an extremely tempting option.
For this bet to pay out of course we need at least three goals, and Chile are more than capable of contributing to a high-scoring game. La Roja are the third top scorers in South American qualifying and this CONMEBOL qualifying tournament has seen them find the back of the net against the continent's best sides including Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Colombia.
They should be able to score at least once against this experimental Germany side, who themselves will also feel that they have goals in them. Chile have conceded in four of their last six matches, while the likes of Azerbaijan, Denmark and Australia have all scored against Germany in recent months.
There should be goals in this game where the two teams are difficult to split meaning our selection seems like a good way of backing a high-scoring encounter.
