'Gattuso' explains reason for missing Gor Mahia matches

Collins 'Gattuso' Okoth was not part of Gor Mahia team which lifted the 2017 KPL Super Cup trophy

Gor Mahia midfielder Collins ‘Gattuso’ Okoth has come out to explain why he was not part of the team during their recent matches.

He was absent when Gor Mahia smashed Muhoroni Youth in a friendly match on February 25 and when the Green Army lifted the 2017 KPL Super Cup after beating Tusker on Sunday.

Interestingly, he had been named in the traveling squad of players who were to fly to Muhoroni but conspicuously missed in the final line-up.

He has now told Goal that he missed the flight to Muhoroni and had family issues when Gor Mahia was playing against Tusker and that he asked for permission to stay out from head coach Ze Maria.

“It was not my wish to miss the two matches. I reported to where we were to meet ahead of Muhoroni trip a bit late and I informed the coach about it. For Tusker match, I had some issue at home and I requested the coach to allow me stay out. He (coach) understood me in all the circumstances.”

'Gattuso' has also vowed to remain focused at Gor Mahia in the season with an aim of recording positive results.
