Garba unfazed with Kano Pillars’ pre-season form

Kano Pillars coach Ahmed Garba says their priority is to make appreciable impact in the 2017-18 season.

Sai Masu Gida pipped Lobi Stars 1-0 to win a pre-season tournament but Garba insists that they are not overwhelmed by the trophy as they look forward to hitting the ground running when the season resumes in January.

“It was a good thing that we won the tournament in Ilorin but we know that we have not won anything yet. We just celebrated winning the title mildly and we have since concentrated on preparing for the next two pre-season tournaments we will be playing-in which starts this weekend,” Garba told Goal.

“We used the tournament to see some of the new players we are using for the new season. We are yet to completely make up our minds on them. It is the reason why the two pre-season tournaments we will be taking part in from this weekend will help us to further view our players in competitive fixtures.

“We will use the two tournaments to test how far we have prepared for the coming season. We know that the commencement of the season is fast approaching and we are doing everything to ensure that we start the season in a remarkable style.”

He confirmed that Pillars are almost done with the signing of new players but that have not shut their doors on exceptional players if they are available in their areas of weaknesses.

Sai Masu Gida are striving to bounce back from their woeful campaign in the topflight. They finished eighth in the 2016-17 league standings and they exited the Federation Cup at the earlier stages.
