Ea Lla Koto almost sold their PSL status to a consortium led by Panyaza Lesufi in 2016, but there are no plans in place to sell this time around

Free State Stars boss Mike Mokoena has dismissed reports that he intends to sell the club, saying he will sue whoever is spreading the rumour that the Bethlehem-based outfit is up for sale.

Reports emerged at the end of the last season that Ea Lla Koto had already opened talks with the Mpisane family, who own National First Division side Royal Eagles.

However, Mokoena has distanced himself from the reports, confirming that they have no plans of selling the club this year, especially after receiving R2 million from the Free State government.

He also revealed that the Premier of the Free State province, Ace Magashule, is helping them get a sponsor ahead of next season.

“Someone, somewhere is malicious and spreading this propaganda about us. I want to take them to the cleaners because I’m tired of defending myself against these baseless rumours. I want to know their motive because this is not good for us. The fact is that we are not for sale,” Mokoena told City Press.

“I am really disturbed by the continuous rumours. I think someone is playing a dirty game with us,” he said.

“I have never mentioned selling to anyone. Selling is not on our agenda, especially this year. The Free State government has just given us R2 million and the premier is putting a task team together to help us get a sponsor. And now this,” added Mokoena.

The Ea Lla Koto owner confirmed that the club has identified a few players to bolster their current squad, but said some of those players are reluctant because of the rumour that the club will be sold in the near future.

“We have identified a few players to bolster our side, but some of them are reluctant to come to us. They have told us they can’t because the club will be sold soon – and this is not true,” concluded Mokoena.
