Former Hearts chief Thompson not happy with current leadership

The former Phobians chief has revealed that the club is losing its identity after failing to match up with the 'big boys' in the last eight seasons

Former Hearts of Oak board member Ernest Thompson has launched a scathing attack at the club's current leadership, insisting that the outfit is no more attractive.

The Accra giants have failed to break their run without a trophy since they last lifted the Ghana Premier League title in 2009, with Asante Kotoko adding insult to injury on Sunday, after thrashing them 3-1 in the final of the FA Cup in Tamale.

“I think the true identity of Hearts of Oak is fading off because the team has failed to uphold the rainbow spirit as well as reposing confidence in their irrepressible supporters,” Thompson told Nhyira FM.

“The club is somehow not attractive currently. Why should the club fail to win Ghana Premier League and other major trophy for the past eight seasons?

“I think this is not the standard of Hearts of Oak we knew so there is something wrong and we should all put our shoulders to the wheel to solve this problem.

“I suggest that if the board of directors still want to stick to the floatation of shares, then they should make it attractive to the fans to buy more to generate money to run the day-to-day affairs of the club and make it attractive.’’

He added: “Secondly, I also suggest that if the board want to generate enough money to finance the club through the floatation of the shares, then those that the club owes should not be allowed to replace the debt owned them with buying of shares as a form of compensation. They should rather buy the new shares with their monies and later get settled of any amount the club owes them.”

Hearts placed fourth in the just-concluded Ghana Premier League season, finishing behind champions Aduana Stars, Wafa and Ebusua Dwarfs.
