FKF boss assures Kenyan fans intending to travel for 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia that all will be well in terms of travel

Football Kenya Federation has dispelled fears that there will be visa restriction for Kenyan football fans intending to travel to Russia for 2018 Fifa World Cup.

Last Tuesday, the Russian government in a communique through their embassies, said that fans planning to watch the global showpiece will not be allowed into the country without ‘special’ travel visas. Russia is one of the most secretive countries in the world.

"We are in receipt of an official communication by the government of Russian Federation through its embassy in Kampala about visa requirements for spectators of the above events (World Cup) in Russia," head of Ugandan Public Diplomacy Ministry of Foreign Affair's was quoted by Daily Monitor, raising fears that fans will have to dig deeper into their pockets to catch a glimpse of the world biggest soccer tournament.

But FKF boss Nick Mwendwa has assured Kenyan fans that all is well, explaining that the special 'fan-ID' is a requirement by Fifa and not Russian government. ​“Russia can't be allowed by Fifa to make new regulations at this stage. There is no worry at all.

"Fans intending to go to Russia to watch the World Cup should just purchase original tickets. The fan-ID was put in place by Fifa, not the Russian government mentioned and it will be used for identification at the entry point.”

In 2014, Russia President Vladimir Putin said that fans intending to travel to the World Cup will have the privilege to do so without any visa restriction. The Fifa World Cup is set to kick-off on June 14, 2018, with the final set for July 15. The next edition will be the first ever World Cup held in Eastern Europe and will be staged in 11 different cities spread across 12 stadia in Russia with the final set for Luzhniki stadium in Moscow.
