Melaka United head coach, Eric Williams is hoping that Melaka United’s win over PKNS FC will boost the team’s confidence for the upcoming games this season.

The 2016 Premier League champion, who are still without a win in the Super League, got their first win of the season after Amri Yahyah’s goal gave them a 1-0 win over PKNS FC, which take them to the next round of FA Cup.

“I think it is great (first win of the season). The players wanted to prove to the supporters that they have the ability and the desire to take us to the next round.”

“(The win) also can build the confidence within the team. It is a very positive sign for our upcoming games," said Williams.

Williams also hailed his players, and also believed their tactics to play defensively worked really well against the firepower of PKNS FC.

“A few of our players played really well. I think PKNS FC scored eight goals before they came here so they have a good firepower.”

“We based our formation obviously trying not to concede. It was 0-0 at halftime and we were doing quite well.

“Second half really tested our characters so I am very proud and happy for the players/ The main focus today is to defend and to avoid from conceding early goal.

“Once we did that, we can be stronger as a team, and we started to create chances,” added Williams.

Melaka United goes through to the next round of FA Cup but will now switch their focus as they aim to get to get their first win in the Super League.
