England U21 celebrating

Though no points are on the line on Saturday, England boss Boothroyd is looking for a strong performance from his players to both build momentum ahead of their qualifying tie against Ukraine and to pay tribute to former Three Lions forward Regis, who the game will be dedicated to.

"I didn't get to know him until after he finished playing. I always found him to be a charming man, quietly spoken, who will be sorely missed," Boothroyd said. "Hopefully our number nines can score a couple of worldie goals which can pay tribute to him."

Boothroyd is likely to tweak his side ahead of Tuesday's fixture and could mark the start of Tottenham and Manchester United target Sessegnon's international career.

The teenager's stunning form for Fulham this season has led to some supporters calling for his inclusion in the England senior side, though he is yet to make an appearance at U21 level.

Sessegnon has scored 14 goals and assisted five more from the left wing at Craven Cottage this season and will be hoping for his first start.

"There's a right time and a right place to see if he can maintain what he's doing," Boothroyd said of Sessegnon.

"There are a lot of pitfalls on the way. So I think he's best to be judged at the end of his career, when he's got 200 caps and everything else. He's got a long way to go yet. He's not ready for them yet. He's in exactly the right place at the right time for his club, playing plenty of games and getting plenty of experience for his country."

England are currently five points clear at the top of their group after taking 13 points from their five games, and Boothroyd sees Romania as the perfect preparation ahead of Tuesday's meeting with Group Four opponents.

"I've picked Romania because they're a lot like Ukraine so we've done the training as if we're preparing for one game. They are doing well in their group and are the sort of team, like a Slovakia, who might just sneak in there."
