The World Cup veteran forward comes to MLS from Brondby IF in Denmark.

The San Jose Earthquakes have landed Costa Rican national team forward Marcos Urena using targeted allocation money.

Urena comes to the club following a short stint with Brondby IF in Denmark. Urena also has spent time playing professionally in his native Costa Rica and in Russia. The 26-year-old forward has racked up 45 appearances for Costa Rica's national team and played in all but one of the team's matches at the 2014 World Cup.

“We don’t just look at a player’s merits or international appearances,” Earthquakes general manager said Jesse Fioranelli in a news release Friday. “We focus more on the player’s skill set to understand whether or not they match what the team needs. Marcos is a very attack-minded player that will be a very important element in binding our midfield and attack. He has great technique and can make many key passes while covering a lot of ground. I think he’s going to be an exciting player for us.”

Urena joins a San Jose side that scored just 32 goals in 34 league matches in 2016.
