Denmark U-21 v Italy U-21 Betting: Watertight Azzurrini defence to keep score down

Having boasted the joint best defensive records in qualification, Al Hain-Cole is not expecting much goalmouth action when the sides meet in Krakow

Denmark and Italy will kick off their European Under-21 Championship by coming face-to-face at the Marszalek Pilsudski Stadium on Sunday.

Having won this competition a record five times in the past, the Azzurrini are 3/4 (1.75) favourites with dabblebet to get their campaign off to a winning start in this one.

However, Niels Frederiksen’s side booked their place in Poland by collecting 28 points from 30 in qualification, and are on offer at 4/1 (5.00) to maintain that excellent form by coming out on top in their opener.

The sides shared a 0-0 draw when they met in a friendly clash last November, and there are odds of 13/5 (3.60) available on them playing out another stalemate here.

Nobody who had watched either side in action over the last couple of years should have been too surprised to see them cancel each other out in that stalemate in Bergamo.

With just three goals conceded in their 10 fixtures, this pair boasted the joint best defensive record out of all 52 teams in the qualification stages for this competition.

It is certainly not hard to see why Luigi Di Biagio’s side are such a tough nut to crack considering their backline is built on such Serie A talents as Juventus’ Daniele Rugani and Atalanta pair Andrea Conti and Mattia Caldara, with wantaway AC Milan goalkeeping prodigy Gianluigi Donnarumma standing guard behind them.

However, with just 17 goals to their name in the 10 qualifiers en route to Poland, they are likely to have a hard time in breaking down a similarly watertight opposition defence.

In fact, having failed to score in either of the last two matches against Denmark, odds of 3/4 (1.75) seem generous on the Italians ensuring no more than two goals go in for the seventh time in nine competitive fixtures.
