Copa Coca-Cola National Finals Day 1 recap

Only the team from Ilorin started with a win in highly contested ties on the opeing day of the Lagos finals

Group A

Kwara 2-0 Yobe

Muslim Community Secondary School started their journey in the Copa Coca-Cola National Finals on a bright note after they secured a 2-0 victory over Government Junior Secondary School, Yobe.

Goals from Temitope Omodara and Lateef Muritala in each half of the encounter ensured the Ilorin boys go top of the Group A log.


Abuja 1-1 Osun

Progressive Comprehensive High School, Osun rallied back to secure a 1-1 draw in a fiercely contested Group A opener against Fosla Academy, Abuja at CMS Grammar School, Bariga, Lagos.

Livewire Timothy Adaji beat the offside trap to race clear on goal before launching a pile driver to put the FCT boys ahead.

But few minutes after the restart, Enoch Emmanuel drew the Osun side level after benefitting from a poor judgement by the impressive shot-stopper, Moses Aluko.

The result leaves both sides, with a point apiece, behind Kwara in the Group A standings.


Group B

Imo 1-1 Rivers

Owerri City College, Imo and Community Secondary School, Amadi-Ama, Rivers shared the spoils in their Group B opening fixtures after they played out a 1-1 draw.

Godwin Archibong got the curtain raiser for Rivers in the first half before Mbom Ogechi levelled scores for the Imo representatives.

Both sides are tied on one point in the second group.


Katsina 1-1 Kano

Again, no winner emerged in the second Group B encounter that involved Government College, Katsina and Government Junior Secondary School, Gwale, Kano as both sides could only manage a 1-1 draw.

Isam'h Nuhu was on the scoresheet for Katsina while Saifullah Ibrahim had the pleasure of registering Kano's effort in a tensed match.

As it stands, all sides in the second group of the Copa Coca-Cola Nationals Finals are tied on a point apiece.
