Ministry of Sports Culture and Arts' budgetary allocation for the financial year 2018/19 could double if plans by Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria sail through in the floor of the house.

The Sports Ministry was allocated a meager Sh8.6 billion this fiscal year by the Treasury, but that figure could shoot up by a double-digit should Kuria's plans to lobby for the increment of the budgetary allocation see the light of the day on the floor of Parliament when the August House reconvenes next year.

Kuria who has been dipping his feet in Kenyan sports scene recently, made headlines last week when he announced plans to change Thika United's name to Mount Kenya United.

“We will work together to make Kenya a great football nation. I will use my platform in parliament to ensure we triple our funding for sports in the fiscal year 2018/2019,” the controversial lawmaker said after watching Thika United retain their place in the Kenyan Premier League ina 0-0 draw with Ushuru in the second leg of the relegation playoff at Narok Stadium on Sunday.

“Finally we have made it. Thika United has retained its place in Kenya Premier League after surviving a fluent attacking football from Ushuru.”
