CONCACAF announces 2017 Gold Cup quarterfinal and semifinal sites

The confederation has named four cities that will host the six games before the final in Santa Clara.

CONCACAF has announced the four cities which will host the 2017 Gold Cup quarterfinals and semifinals.

Philadelphia will host two quarterfinal matches on July 19 at Lincoln Financial Field while University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, will be where the other two quarterfinals take place on July 20.

Arlington, Texas, has received one of the semifinals, which will take place at AT&T Stadium on July 22. The Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, which has played host to Gold Cup finals in past, will be the site of the other semifinal on July 23.

CONCACAF previously announced the final will be July 26 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

“With the announcement of the knockout round venues, we complete the picture of world class stadiums for this year’s Gold Cup,” CONCACAF General Secretary Philippe Moggio said in a press release. “We know these host cities and the stadiums themselves will provide the atmosphere and facilities to match the enthusiasm of the fans they will welcome this summer.”

The confederation also announced Honduras will be one of the three seeded teams for the tournament, following its Copa Centroamericana win, along with the United States and Mexico. Honduras will be in Group A, with the United States in Group B and Mexico in Group C.

The full groups and schedule will be announced March 7. In addition to the seeded teams, Canada, Costa Rica, Curacao, El Salvador, French Guiana, Jamaica, Martinique and Panama have qualified for this summer’s tournament. Haiti and Nicaragua have a home-and-away playoff to determine the last spot.
