“I’m excited to stay here in Columbus and build this club and its brand on and off the field,” Trapp told the Crew’s official website. “It’s a wonderful opportunity with a great group of players to continue to push this club, style of soccer and my career forward. Playing in Columbus means a great deal to me and my family and I am humbled to remain a Crew SC player.”

Trapp, 24, has made 95 league appearances for Columbus since signing with the club as a homegrown player in December 2012 after spending two years at the University of Akron. He’s scored one goal and assisted on nine others over that span. A key member of the Crew side that made it to the MLS Cup final in 2015, Trapp was named club captain for the 2017 campaign.

Internationally, Trapp has been capped at numerous youth levels and captained the U.S. Under-23 squad that fell in an Olympic qualification playoff to Colombia in 2016. He has also earned two caps for the senior national team, both in friendlies.

Trapp is the second Crew player to be extended recently as attacker Justin Meram signed a new deal with the team last week.
