Cobbinah urged to improve ahead of Wafu final

The Black Stars coach is asking for more from the Phobians midfielder who has been brilliant so far at the ongoing Wafu Cup

Ghana coach Maxwell Konadu tells midfielder Winful Cobbinah that an extra work is needed against Nigeria in the Wafu Cup of Nations final on Sunday.

The Hearts of Oak poster boy was adjudged Man of the Match against Mali. He assisted Kwame Kizito's goal against Niger in the semi-finals, but his critics claim he never chases the ball whenever he losses it.

Although Konadu insists it is unfair to expect too much from him, the coach wants him to give his best at the Cape Coast Sports stadium in order to help Ghana lift the trophy.

“He didn’t play in the main central role [against Niger] where he has been playing all the tournament. Cobbinah is the only player in the team that we gave a free role in the games played so far,” Konadu told the media.

“But when we lost the ball, there were instances where he had to track down his man but he doesn't. He needs to do better [in the final against Nigeria].

“Because to be a good midfielder, you have to be used to any position you find yourself in and help your teammates but we shouldn't expect too much,” he added.
