Marco van Basten scored many spectacular goals throughout his stellar career but there is one strike in particular which stands out more than most.

From an almost improbable angle, Van Basten famously fired home a sumptuous volley for the Netherlands as they beat the Soviet Union 2-0 in the 1988 European Championships final in West Germany.

Van Basten's fifth and final goal of the competition remains today one of the best goals ever scored in the tournament's history and in football.
