Christian Atsu revels in Newcastle Championship win

The Ghana midfielder helped his Magpies team to win the Skybet Championship on Sunday as Brighton and Hove Albion dropped points against Aston Villa

Christian Atsu ended up as a title winner with Newcastle United on Sunday as they lifted the Championship title in front of their fans inside their St James’ Park arena when they defeated Barnsley 3-0 with goals from Ayoze Perez, Chancel Mbemba and Dwight Gayle.

Title rivals Brighton and Hove Albion dropped points late in their 1-1 draw at Aston Villa to allow the Magpies win the title.

Atsu started and finished the game and celebrated the victory with his family afterwards.

The midfielder posted a photo on Twitter where he posed with his German wife Marie-Claire Rupio and their son with the Championship trophy.

The 25-year-old has had a great season with the Magpies where he scored five goals in the league from 32 appearances (15 starts).

He is expected to be kept on by manager Rafa Benitez as they make the move up to the Premier League. Newcastle have the option of purchase from Chelsea for the Ghana midfielder who proved a good player during their push to the top flight.
