Premier League champions Chelsea play host to relegated Sunderland in their final Premier League fixture of the 2016-17 season.
The west Londoners have won each of their last six matches in all competitions and the Blues will be determined to maintain momentum when they line up against the beleaguered Black Cats.
Antonio Conte shuffled his pack against Watford last time out, but the Blues still came out on top, with Cesc Fabregas scoring a late winner in a thrilling 4-3 triumph against the Hornets and the 47-year-old Italian may well be tempted to rest a number of key players again ahead of next weekend’s FA Cup final against Arsenal at Wembley.
Nevertheless, Chelsea are expected to be far too strong for a Sunderland side that has won just one of their last 13 Premier League fixtures and, as such, Conte’s champions are chalked up as a 1/7 (1.14) shot with Paddy Power to pick up all three points – and a 30th Premier League win of the season.
The Black Cats have scored just two goals in their last 13 Premier League losses away from Wearside and the odds compilers offer just 1/2 (1.50) that Chelsea compound Sunderland’s misery by winning to nil on Sunday afternoon, with 2/5 (1.40) that the visitors fail to find the net once again.
Better value, however, could lie in backing Chelsea to record a thumping victory as they bid to further enhance their confidence ahead of the Cup final. The Blues have bagged a hugely impressive 11 goals in their last three matches at Stamford Bridge and Sunderland could well find themselves on the end of a heavy defeat as Conte’s charges celebrate their title triumph in front of their home supporters for the final time this term.
Better value, however, may lie in backing the Blues to get amongst the goals. Chelsea are chalked up as an even money (2.0) chance to score at least three times against the Black Cats – it is a selection that would have seen punters profit from six of the last seven matches that the west Londoners have won.
Sunderland’s fate is already sealed and Conte’s team can be backed at even money (2.0) to heap yet more misery upon Moyes’ men by running riot at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
