East Bengal outclassed Southern Samity 3-0 to pick their fourth win on the trot in the Calcutta Football League (CFL). Laldanmawia Ralte gave them the lead in the first half. Samad Ali Mullick and Almna increased their lead in the second half.
It was a walk in the park for the Red and Golds who blew away their underprepared opponents. Southern Samity were no match for the giants.
Khalid Jamil fielded an unchanged starting XI from the previous match. Right winger Laldanmawia scored the opening goal of the match taking advantage of a misunderstanding between the Southern Samity defenders. Rakesh Masih passed back to defender Dalraj Singh who completely misjudged it. Ralte got hold of the ball and comfortably found the back of the net.
The Southern attack was spearheaded by former Dempo SC striker Koko Sakibo and his compatriot Abubakar Alhasan. After conceding the goal, the minnows took their chances and came close to an equaliser on quite a few ocassions but the East Bengal defenders' vigilance denied them from scoring.
East Bengal started the second half on a positive note and looked hungry for a second goal to seal the fate of the match. The second goal finally came from the foot of right-back Samad Ali Mullick in the 57th minute. The defender attempted a cross from the right corner which swerved suddenly, fooled the opponent goalkeeper and went straight in.
The second goal increased East Bengal's momentum and completely shattered Southern's confidence.
Mahmoud Al Amna finally got his name into the score sheet in the 70th minute. Willis Plaza made a brilliant solo move as he dribbled past a defender to get inside the opponent's penalty box. The Trindadian attempted a shot at goal which unfortunately hit the bar post and went straight to the Syrian midfielder. An alert Amna did not waste any time to take his shot, which went straight into the net.
East Bengal maintain 100% win record in the ongoing CFL and are well oncourse to defend their title. The Red and Golds will now face Railway FC on August 28.
