Cercle Brugge sign former Monaco winger Serge Gakpe

Newly promoted Belgian First Division A side Cercle Brugge have announced the signing of Serge Gakpe on a free transfer.

Last season, the winger made 30 appearances across all competitions scoring thrice for French Ligue 1 side Amiens to help them finish in the 13th spot.

Having played for Monaco, Nantes, Genoa, Chievo among others and with 45 international caps for Togo, Cercle Brugge’s Sporting Director Francois Vitali is hoping that they can benefit from Gakpe’s experience.

“He'll be able to share his wealth of experience with our young forwards, and that's exactly what we wanted," Vitali told club website.

"We are very happy to welcome Serge. He is an offensive player with significant experience at the highest level and in particular in three major European championships Belgium, Italy and France,"

Gakpe could make his first appearance for his new club when they face Oostende in a league tie at Versluys Arena on Saturday.
