Cecafa: Harambee Stars warned not to underrate Zanzibar

Zanzibar went against all odds to down Cecafa defending champions Uganda and set a final date with Kenya on Sunday.

The Islanders defeated the Cranes 2-1 in an entertaining semis tie, and as a result booked a final berth where they will tackle hosts Kenya, who had defeated Burundi by a solitary goal.

Former Harambee Stars striker Boniface Ambani has warned the team against underrating Zanzibar, who have been excellent in this edition.

“It was a shocker to many, no one had expected Zanzibar to eliminate Uganda, but again this is football and things do happen. They have showed their intent since the tournament started until now. Good organization and commitment from the back all the way to attack.

“Kenya, yes, comes into the match as favourites but if that creeps into the minds of players, then they will be in for a rude shock. Zanzibar cannot be underrated,” Ambani told Goal.

Kenya lost 3-1 in 2015 when the two teams met during the Group stage of the competition.
