Carelse surprised to see Baloyi leave Kaizer Chiefs

Amakhosi on Tuesday released a list of players they deemed surplus requirements after another trophyless season

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Martin Carelse is surprised to see midfielder Lucky Baloyi among the seven players released by the club.

“The one surprising player to be transfer-listed is Baloyi. I think he had games where you can see he just needed more game-time for him to become regular, but you know coaches have different opinions when it comes to players,” Carelse told Goal.

Baloyi made only 10 appearances in all competitions for Amakhosi last season, mainly as a substitute.

Since returning from his loan spell with Moroka Swallows two seasons ago, ‘Sheriff’ has struggled to break into the starting eleven.

“Baloyi was always there and tried to be positive whenever he played,” Carelse said.

Former Bafana Bafana defender Siyanda Xulu is also on his way out at Chiefs, and Carelse feels he will go elsewhere and perform as he was never given a fair chance by Steve Komphela.

“Definitely, because whenever he played you could actually tell that he is playing with a purpose by taking people on and making tackles. He was defending and attacking,” Carelse said.
