The former South Africa youth international could be plying his trade in the MLS next season if he decides to leave the Danish club

Brondby IF head coach Alexander Zorniger says reported New York City FC target Lebogang Phiri's future needs to be resolved soon.

The American Major League Soccer (MLS) club City will reportedly make another move for the South Africa international in the next few months.

Phiri is likely to leave Brondby after failing to agree a new contract with the Danish Superliga club, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old player remains a key player for Zorniger's side having made 31 league appearances for the club in the current campaign.

However, German tactician Zorniger has since stated that he wants Phiri's future to be resolved as they prepare for their league clash with FC Copenhagen on Sunday.

"Given his achievements for us at the moment, we need to make a decision as soon as possible," Zorniger told Ritzau.

Phiri was the subject of a bid from City in January 2017‚ but Brondby rejected the offer and now the player looks set to leave after fours years with the club.

The midfielder joined Brondby's under-19 team from Bidvest Wits in February 2013. He then signed a four-year deal four months later.
