Brilliant Khuzwayo: I didn't celebrate when Steve Komphela quit Kaizer Chiefs

Outgoing Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo says there's no bad blood between him and Steve Komphela for believing in Itumeleng Khune more during his three-year tenure.

Khuzwayo is set to leave Amakhosi as a free agent in July 2018 after six years with the Naturena-based side having decided against extending his contract with the club.

The lanky shot-stopper played second fiddle to Chiefs captain Khune during his time with the team, and his lack of game time made him quit the Soweto giants.

When Komphela left the club, many joked that Khuzwayo was excited to see the coach leave. 

“I didn’t celebrate when he [Komphela] quit. We had a good relationship with Komphela,” Khuzwayo told MetroFM.

The former AmaZulu FC keeper said he learned a lot from Komphela, who failed to win a major trophy during his spell with Chiefs.

“We met a lot at the gym. He has taught me a lot about life besides him not playing me," he continued. Khuzwayo made 24 appearances in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) between 2015 and 2018 under Komphela.

"And you need to understand someone might not like your style but it doesn’t mean you are not good enough," he added.

"It shouldn’t change how you view or treat the person," he concluded.

Khuzwayo will not be short of admirers during the upcoming transfer window as he has been linked with a possible move to either Cape Town City or Orlando Pirates.

Pirates, who are expected to beef up their goalkeeping department this winter, are said to be leading the race for the shot-stopper's signature.

Current Bidvest Wits striker Lehlohonolo Majoro remains the last player to join Pirates directly from Chiefs.
