Bidvest Wits coach Hunt anticipates tricky test against Smouha

The Students will travel to Egypt once again as they look to book their place in the group stages of the 2017 Caf Confederation Cup

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt is cautious of their group stage play-off opponents in Egypt’s Smouha and the different city they will be playing this time around.

“It’s going to be a tough game. They are hard to beat as well. We are playing in a different city this time around in Alexandria. You can’t fly there, you have to travel by bus so it’s not going to be easy,” Hunt told Goal.

The Students recently lost 1-0 on aggregate to African giants Al Ahly.

Smouha will prove to be no pushovers. They played in the Caf Champions League group stages of the 2015 edition in their first ever appearance in the tournament.

Hunt is pleased with how they have acquitted themselves in their continental journey so far, though there’s still room for improvement.

“We have been doing very well. We are looking forward to our next game in Africa and we are motivated to do well that’s all,” Hunt said.

Wits could not even make the group stage play-offs the last time they took part in the Caf Confederation Cup as they knocked out in the second round by Tanzania’s Azam last year.

They are now on the brink of reaching the group stages, but they will need to beat Smouha in the two-legged tie.
