Mahlambi suffered a career threatening injury in 2016, but he came back stronger to eventually win the PSL Young Player of the Season award last term

Bidvest Wits and South African attacker Phakamani Mahlambi has arrived in Europe to begin his three-week trial in Portugal.

Mahlambi's coach at Wits, Gavin Hunt, confirmed two weeks ago that the speedy player would be going to Portugal to try his luck, but at the time he refused to name the club.

It has now been confirmed that Mahlambi will be assessed at Vitoria Guimaraes as he looks to seal a potential move abroad.

He will begin his trial on Monday following his arrival in Guimaraes on Saturday.

Mahlambi will have his teammate at Bafana Bafana, Bongani Zungu to keep him company during his time at Guimaraes.

There are two other South Africans at the club in the form of Haashim Domingo and Thibang Phete, and Mahlambi may find it easy to adapt to his surroundings.

Despite missing the better part of the first half of last season, Mahlambi bounced back to score six goals and grab seven assists in 16 official matches for the Students.
