Betting Special: Lukaku still the man to beat in the Premier League top scorer market

After three matches played there are still two clear favourites for the Golden Boot and plenty of others who will fancy their chances at big prices

Manchester United's impressive start to the season sees them head into the international break as the only side with a one hundred per cent record in the Premier League. Not only have Jose Mourinho's men won all three of their matches, but they have been scoring plenty of goals and importantly big-money summer signing Romelu Lukaku has hit the ground running.

The Belgian striker has netted three times in the opening three games of the league season (as well as scoring on his competitive debut in the UEFA Super Cup) and he is currently the joint top scorer in the English top flight.

bet365 offer Lukaku at 9/4 (3.25) to end the campaign as the division's leading marksman and if he continues at his current rate, he will surely improve on his tally of 25 goals from last season when he was still at Everton.

Harry Kane Tottenham 2017

Next in the betting comes Harry Kane, winner of the Golden Boot for the past two seasons, yet the Tottenham forward is yet to get off the mark in the current campaign and is offered at 4/1 (5.00). It is worth remembering however that last season Kane took a while to get going before ending in blistering fashion netting eight times in the last three matches.

There is then something of a jump in the betting with Alvaro Morata, Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero all offered at 9/1 (10.00). Of the three, Morata has had the better start netting twice while the South American pair have only managed a goal each, yet Aguero has proved his Premier League goalscoring pedigree and Jesus looks like he could be a prolific marksman in England.

Before his injury last season, Jesus scored in three successive league matches, and having already gotten off the mark this term, he could be well placed to make a big impact, especially if the 20-year-old is the first choice striker in Pep Guardiola's line up.

GFX STATS PL TOP SCORER UPDATE

Elsehwere in the market, Sadio Mane has come flying out of the blocks with three goals already and the Senegalese forward is priced at 14/1 (15.00), although he will have to make a considerable step up; last term was his best ever scoring season in England with 13 league goals.

Wayne Rooney meanwhile has enjoyed his return to Everton so far scoring two goals already and having retired from international football, there could perhaps be so value in backing a resurgent Rooney at 40/1 (41.00)
