Both teams are battling to beat the drop but our tipster is backing Paul Clement's charges to make home advantage count in south Wales on Sunday

The showdown between Swansea City and Middlesbrough is hugely significant as both teams battle to preserve their Premier League status.

The Swans have taken full points from each of their last three Premier League matches on home soil and Paul Clement's charges can take another step towards safety by beating 'Boro in south Wales on Sunday afternoon.

Swansea have suffered a setback in their battle to beat the drop in recent weeks, after enduring back-to-back defeats against both Hull City and AFC Bournemouth on their travels, but the Swans will be hoping to make home advantage count here.

The home side are chalked up as Betfair Sportsbook’s evens (2.0) favourites to claim a fourth successive Premier League win on home soil - a result that would see Swansea move eight points ahead of Middlesbrough in the top flight standings.

Middlesbrough have the memory of a thumping 3-0 win against Swansea at Riverside Stadium back in December but, remarkably, that was the last time that the team from Teesside took all three points from a Premier League fixture - a winless streak that now stretches to 11 games.

Boro can be backed at 29/10 (3.90) to arrest their slide by doing the double against the Swans, with 5/2 (3.50) that the match ends level.

Middlesbrough parted company with Aitor Karanka ahead of their meeting with Manchester United last time out, but there was no immediate upturn in fortunes as Jose Mourinho's charges cruised to a comfortable 3-1 victory against Boro.

Steve Agnew, who oversaw that loss, will again be in the dugout for this match, but attaining a positive result looks like a tough ask, for Middlesbrough have managed just one goal in their last seven top flight tussles away from Teesside.

The offer is 7/5 (2.40) that the shot-shy visitors draw another blank in south Wales and 4/6 (1.67) that there are fewer than three goals scored - a selection that would have seen punters profit from nine of the last 11 league matches that Boro have played on the road.

All but one of Swansea’s last nine home games in the Premier League has seen at least three goals scored and there is 23/20 (2.15) that the trend continues here and evens (2.0) that there are goals at both ends.

Swansea's recent revival at Liberty Stadium, though, could well continue against a Boro side that is bereft of belief and, as such, the evens (2.0) quote for a home win could offer decent value for punters ahead of Sunday's crucial clash.
