The race to be crowned as the Championship’s top scorer this season looks likely to be tight – and the outright market offers plenty of value for punters looking to snap up the value in bet365’s Ante-Post market.
Middlesbrough and Aston Villa are amongst the favourites to be crowned as champions in the second tier of English football during the forthcoming campaign and, so, it is perhaps unsurprising that it is their strikers who dominate the top scorer market in the division.
Britt Assombalonga, who scored 14 goals for Nottingham Forest in the Championship last term, will be hoping to better that tally this season having made the move to Garry Monk’s Middlesbrough and the 24-year-old will be keen to grab the goals to take the team from Teesside back to the top tier.
There is 9/1 (10.0) that Assombalonga is the Championship’s leading marksman for the forthcoming campaign.
Aston Villa's Jonathan Kodjia, too, will be hoping to improve upon his tally for Steve Bruce’s side during his second season at Villa Park. The Villans had high hopes for the Ivorian following his move from Bristol City last summer and a return of 19 goals was certainly impressive, given the Kodjia missed some of the season due to his involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations for his country last January.
Kodjia will be key if Villa are to contend at the top end of the Championship this term and 8/1 (9.0) is available that the 27-year-old star is the top scorer in the second tier this season. His team-mate, Scott Hogan, is a 14/1 (15.0) chance to be the Championship’s leading scorer.
Vying alongside Kodjia for favouritism in this market at 8/1 (9.0) is Leeds United striker, Chris Wood. The Whites may not be amongst the favourites to take the title this season, but the inclusion of the New Zealand international at the top end of the market is no surprise.
Wood hit 27 league goals for Leeds last season – eight more than Kodjia, who was the second top scorer in the division amongst strikers who will ply their trade in the Championship again this season.
Jordan Rhodes is a 12/1 (13.0) chance to be the top scorer in the Championship this term and the former Blackburn Rovers striker will be desperate to make a big impact as he looks to establish himself as a regular in Gordon Strachan’s Scotland squad, while Portuguese striker Nelson Oliveira will likely lead the line for Norwich City this season and there is 14/1 (15.0) that the 25-year-old striker makes his mark for the Canaries and takes top spot in the scoring charts.
Kodjia and Assombalonga are certainly interesting contenders but, should Leeds perform well under the stewardship of new boss Thomas Christiansen, Chris Wood could well represent good value at 8/1 (9.0) to be the Championship’s leading marksman once again this season.
