The Real Madrid star has overtaken a number of players on the competition's all-time goal chart this season and now owns fifth place outright

Karim Benzema has passed Thierry Henry on the list of all-time Champions League top scorers after netting for the 51st time against Napoli.

RUMOURS: Real Madrid want Otamendi

The Real Madrid striker now holds fifth place outright in Europe's top competition after overtaking his compatriot, with Ruud van Nistelrooy his next target on 56 goals.

Having started the 2016-17 season outside the top 10 on 46 goals, Benzema has overtaken the likes of Eusebio and Alfredo di Stefano by scoring five times in his last four games.

His latest effort drew Madrid level in the first leg of their last-16 tie against Napoli at the Santiago Bernabeu after Lorenzo Insigne had given the visitors the lead.

In contrast to his excellent form in the Champions League, Benzema has struggled in La Liga this season, notching just five goals so far in the Spanish top flight.

That has led to speculation he could be replaced in the summer, with the likes of Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang linked with a move to Madrid.

Benzema's proficiency in Europe has seen Zinedine Zidane keep faith in him, however, and he has reached the 51-goal mark in 88 games for his current club and Lyon.
