Christian Benteke returned to haunt Liverpool on Sunday and now boasts more goals as an opposing player at Anfield than he managed while with the Reds.

The Belgium international striker spent just one forgettable season on Merseyside in 2015-16.

He was snapped up for £32.5 million, but managed just 10 goals in 42 appearances.

Only four of them came on home soil in Premier League competition, leading to him being offloaded to Crystal Palace last summer.

Benteke bagged a brace for Palace in his most recent meeting with Liverpool to earn Sam Allardyce’s relegation-threatened side a much-needed 2-1 win.

He has, however, been a thorn in the Reds’ side on a regular basis down the years.

Another double earned Aston Villa a 2-1 victory in December 2012, while he was also on target in a 2-2 draw from January 2014.

Benteke now has 19 goals for club and country this season, with his efforts helping Palace to secure another notable scalp.

The Eagles are now seven points clear of the relegation zone with only five fixtures remaining.
