The former Ghana youth captain has signed for the Hunters ahead of the new season

Ghana FA Cup champions Bechem United have announced the signing of former Hearts of Oak defender Joseph Owusu Bempah in a two-year deal until 2019 with an option to extend for one additional year.

The 21-year-old, who was tipped by many pundits as the next big star in the country, following his heroics with Ghana U20 side in 2015, became a benchwarmer at Hearts during the second-half of last season, deciding not to extend his contract after it expired last November.

"Bechem is one of the rising clubs in the country and I always want to associate myself with the winning team. Looking at the players that have joined ahead of the season, it clearly shows that the club is ready to achieve success," Bempah told Goal.

"Bechem are also noted of transferring players into Europe and Asia so I hope that my performance will open doors for me in the future. Per what I have been told and seen following my arrival at the club, I think we can reach the group stages of the Caf Confederations Cup just as Medeama did last season. We have the men to do the job and I trust them," he added.

Aside Bechem winning the FA Cup last campaign, the club enjoyed their best moment in the local league too, finishing seventh on the log with 42 points, nine behind winners Wa All Stars.

Bechem have already signed Amed Toure, Saddick Abubakar, Diewisie Taylor and former Hasaacas captain Daniel Egyin.

The 2017 GPL season is scheduled to start on February 4 after litigation delayed the initial kick off last December.
