All you need to know about the Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup 2017

The beach soccer Intercontinental Cup will kick off today in UAE capital Dubai until November 4th.

A dedicated stadium is being built in the business district, and 3,000 fans will also be allowed to attend.


History of tournament & the Arabic Participation


The tournament began back in 2011 in UAE, which is scheduled to last there until at least 2020.

This tournament is the second-largest beach soccer co

mpetition after the World Cup, with six continental champions around the world, the host of the tournament and the winner of the World Cup.

The Russian team is the most successful with three titles, Brazil won it on two occasions, and Iran won it once.

As part of the Arab participation, the UAE team participated in all six previous editions, the best achievement was to get the third place in 2012 and 2013.

The Egyptian team participated in three previous editions, and the best achievement was to get fourth in 2015.

The presence of the Moroccan team in the 2013 and 2014 championships and was knocked out of the tournament from first round, While Oman was the only other Arab team to appear when they lost all of their three matches in 2011.

"The UAE has the best beach ball in the world and we have the ability to organize the World Cup and this is a clear sign of progress," said Mohammed Al-Muzmi, president of the UAE federation.

"Step by step, we are showing our progress to the world and after the last World Cup, more than one player came out in the European leagues, which helped them gain more experience, certainly we are developing every day."


2017 Tournament (teams and how they qualified)


Brazil, Portugal, Mexico, Russia, Paraguay and Iran are participating in this edition alongside the UAE and Egypt.

Brazil are the World Cup champions, and the South American champions also, they come this year to add more victories to their record, which reached 42 consecutive victories in all competitions.

Brazil won the World Cup, to allow Paraguay to participate in the Intercontinental championship for the first time as a CONMEBOL Beach Soccer Championship runners-up.

While the Portuguese team will look for their revenge from Russia who defeated them in the last European Championship final, being the second candidate for the title after Brazil.
The Iranian team will participate as the 2017 Asian champions, and the UAE will participate as the host country.

European champions Russia, the most Intercontinental winners, will try to add a fourth title to continue their historic lead of the championship previous winners.

The Egyptian team, third in the last African championship, will appear for the third time in the tournament, after the withdrawal of Nigeria and Senegal.

The Mexican national team will play for the fourth time as the 2017 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship runners-up, after Panama's withdrawal.

The Egyptian and UAE teams will be in Group A along with Portugal and Brazil, while in the other group there will be Mexico, Russia, Paraguay and Iran.

Tournament timeline


The first round matches will be played on October 31 and November 1 and 2, and the semifinals will be held on November 3, with the final and the Third place play-off will be on November 4.

The Egyptian team will play against Brazil in the opening match of the tournament today at 4:15 pm before facing the UAE on November 1 at 4:15 pm and then their last group match will be against Portugal on November 2 at 5:30.

On the other hand, the UAE team will face Portugal at 5:30 today, before facing Egypt on November 1 at 4:15, and finally meet with Brazil on November 2 in 7:45 PM.
