Eintracht Frankfurt teenager Aymen Barkok has admitted he is 'flattered' by rumours linking him with Arsenal, but says that a formal offer has not been made.

The 19-year-old broke into the Frankfurt team last season, playing 18 times in the Bundesliga. He scored twice from midfield and was called into the Germany Under-19 squad for the 2017 European U-19 Championship.

He scored in Germany's opening game against Netherlands and played all three group games before being knocked out by eventual champions England.

Barkok's performances for club and country have seen him linked with a move to a bigger club, with Arsenal rumoured to be interested. The Gunners have not yet made an offer for the Frankfurt-born midfielder, who is happy to be linked with a move to Arsene Wenger's side.

"To be honest, I learned from the press," Barkok told the Weisbadener Kurier. "I have not received a request yet. But, of course, I am flattered.

"It would be great to play in the Europa League or Champions League. But that is still a long way away. I have to prove myself in the Bundesliga."

Barkok was rewarded with a silver Fritz Walter Medal as the second best Under-19 player in Germany, an accolade previously awarded to Manuel Neuer, Max Meyer and Timo Werner, who all finished runners-up in their respective years.

He has shown his versatility playing in different positions at club level and for Germany's underage sides, and is thankful to Frankfurt head coach Niko Kovac for giving him the opportunity to play in Germany's top tier.

"It was very, very good. I never expected that I would get so much time. I am very grateful to Coach Niko Kovac for giving me so much confidence.

"I feel most comfortable playing the eight or 10. At the European Championship, I also played on the left front, but I can handle it as a six. I think I am very flexible."
