Bandari FC are set to name a new captain before the start of the 2018 Kenyan Premier League season.
The new captain will replace outgoing skipper Wilson Obungu who currently has a lot on his plate following his appointment as the club’s Assistant Team Manager and goalkeeper trainer last December.
With more responsibilities thrown his way, the former Sofapaka, Tusker and Sony Sugar custodian says that he will have to drop the armband in order to execute his new roles.
“I have a lot in my hands at the moment. I will have to let someone else lead the team on the pitch,” Obungu told Goal in an interview.
Congolese Felly Mulumba has come up as a strong candidate to replace Obungu whose work in the technical bench started on a sad note following the untimely death of Team Manager, Alfred Obwaka three weeks ago.
Meanwhile, Obungu has reiterated that he is still active in the game and that he has no plans of hanging his gloves anytime soon.
“I have not retired (from playing). Am still active and will continue to play as long as the coach feels that I still have something to offer the team.
“In the meantime, I will work with other goalkeepers to mentor them so that we have a smooth transition in that department.”
Bandari, who finished 10 last campaign, have set a top-five finish this season as they prepare to kick off their league campaign against Sofapaka in February.
