Baffoe happy with Ghana's new technical team

The former national star has backed the new men to succeed due to their knowledge and understanding of the game

Founder and general secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana, Anthony Baffoe, says the GFA's appointment of ex-players to lead the technical team of the Black Stars is a step in the right direction.

Ex-left-back James Kwesi Appiah has been reappointed as head coach following an earlier stint between 2012 and 2014.

Also, former Borussia Dortmund striker Ibrahim Tanko has been named first deputy coach, ex-Asante Kotoko forward Maxwell Konadu was confirmed second deputy coach while two-time Fifa World Cup participant Richard 'Olele' Kingson has been handed the goalkeeping trainer's job.

“It is good we have our own as technical members. All these guys are ex-players of the Black Stars team," Baffoe told pressmen on Thursday.

“They have played the game before and understand it as well; Appiah, Olele, Tanko and Maxwell understand the game very well.

“I pray they excel with the Black Stars team and I have lots of confidence in them.”

Again, former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has been appointed technical coordinator of the Black Stars.

The four-time African champions are hoping to bounce back from recent disappointments.

The team's chances of playing at the 2018 World Cup hang in the balance following a poor start to the third round qualifying campaign.

The Black Stars were also knocked out in the semi-finals of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

The team is currently preparing to take on Ethiopia in a 2019 Afcon qualifier on June 11.
