The Ghana international addresses questions about where he would love to be deployed on the pitch by coach Rafael Benitez

Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu says he does not have a problem playing on either side of the pitch, adding that his sole ambition remains to be a regular starter next season.

After impressing on loan from Chelsea last campaign, Atsu penned a four-year deal in May as the Magpies exercised the purchase option of his brief spell.

“I will focus on both positions," Atsu told the Chronicle, when asked whether he preferred playing on the left or the right.

“You can’t put all your eggs in one basket, so I will just work hard in any position the manager picks me.

"I’ll give 100 per cent. The main aim is to fight for the first XI."

Atsu made 32 league outings, scoring on five occasions, as Newcastle won the Championship to secure Premier League promotion.

On the back of his good first year at St. James' Park, the 25-year-old wants to have an even bigger impact this campaign.

“I think I’m more confident this season. I believe I will be better than last season,” Atsu said.

“I’m working hard. I know I will give my best for Newcastle and they will see the best of me.

“There’s nothing new now for me. I don’t have to find a new house, so I can settle in well. I just want to play.

"I want to do well for the fans and the team. There is no stress.

“But we want wins and we want to be focused for the Premier League in a few weeks.
