The Porcupine Warriors have been handed a golden opportunity to go top of the log with the visit of the Eleven is to One

Asante Kotoko welcome Inter Allies to the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday in matchday nine of the Ghana Premier League.

Zdravko Lugarusic's men return to action after losing 1-0 in the Super Clash to Hearts of Oak a fortnight ago in Accra, while their visitors are chasing their first away victory this campaign.

Kotoko are second on the log, tied on the same points (17) with leaders Aduana Stars but, the latter's game against Wa All Stars in Dormaa Ahenkro has been postponed. All Stars are participating in the 2017 Wafu tournament in Senegal and a win for Kotoko will see them opening a three-point gap.

Lugarusic has come under pressure recently, after his charges failed to score more than one goal in their last seven games due to his 3-5-2 formation but, he insists the story will be different on Sunday.

"Against Inter Allies on Sunday, we will attack and attack Inter Allies to prove to people that Kotoko can score more than two goals," he said.

“Defensively, I am okay but I need a bit of more experienced striker upfront who can help Yakubu Mohammed because we lack goals.

“At the moment, they are not giving us the level of the play Kotoko need. We are talking about the quality which people will see and applaud and say wow, what a play, that is the key thing but I believe things will change on Sunday," he added.

Allies have met Kotoko twice in Kumasi but have failed to win or score in any of the previous meetings. However, defender Wahab Ackwei believes he will break the jinx.

“I am working very hard to score more goals this season and I am 100 per cent sure I will be scoring against Asante Kotoko this weekend [in Kumasi],” he said.

“We are fully prepared for the game because Kotoko are a big club and our plan is to spoil their unbeaten home record. We want to win and we are ready to halt their home record. I am optimistic that we will beat them on Sunday,” he added.

Allies have no injury worries, same as Kotoko, but midfielder Emmanuel Gyamfi will have to pass late fitness tests.
