It is the 20-year-old midfielder’s second loan in as many years. He joined Scottish side Rangers last season as the Glasgow club was fighting its way back to Scotland’s top-flight. He made 21 appearances for Rangers last season, 15 of them starts. He did not score a goal.

Zelalem has yet to make an appearance for Arsenal in the Premier League, though he did make two league cup appearances this season for the Gunners. He has spent the year training and playing with the Arsenal Under-23 side.

The Berlin-born youngster has made seven appearances for the United States on the youth international level.
