With the Reds' A-League title defence in tatters, their Spanish coach knows he's on the verge of losing his job

Adelaide United coach Guillermo Amor conceded after the Reds' 5-0 loss to Perth Glory that he doesn't deserve a new contract.

Less than 12 months ago, Amor was the talk of the town in Adelaide after he led the Reds to the A-League premiership-championship double in his first season at the club.

Adelaide had never won the championship before they defeated Western Sydney Wanderers 3-1 in last year's grand final.

After his side slumped to their 12th loss of the 2016-17 campaign in embarrassing fashion on Friday night, the Spaniard revealed talks over an extension to his contract, which expires at the end of the season, are on hold.

"I don't deserve nothing in this moment, I don't deserve a signed contract," Amor said at his post-match press conference.

"I don't deserve after this result and situation of the team. It's not good for me and not good for Adelaide in this case.

"In days or weeks it is possible we will speak. I don't think of my future or contract."

Adelaide defender Tarek Elrich apologised to the home crowd at Coopers Stadium, who had to wait an hour as kick-off was delayed due to extreme temperatures only to watch their side concede five goals.

"It's just not good enough," Elrich told SBS.

"I feel sorry for the 6000 that came out tonight and for our club.

"We've come off a great season last year and this year is just a total opposite.

"I can't even put it into words. It's very disappointing. I can't explain it. It is what it is."

Meanwhile, Perth defender Rhys Williams applauded Glory's clean sheet in their third win in four matches.

Glory rose to fourth with their win in South Australia, with the visitors registering just their second clean sheet of the season.

"To come here to the champions and win 5-0 and keep a clean sheet is brilliant for us," Williams said.
