The Australian midfielder put in a full shift as his club continued their late dash to avoid relegation to Denmark's second tier

Mustafa Amini helped AGF take a step towards safety in the Danish Superliga on Monday, as his side defeated Silkeborg 2-0.

AGF registered a second straight win in Denmark's top tier, with Amini putting in a full shift in central midfield at Silkeborg's Mascot Park, while fellow Socceroos midfielder Chris Ikonomidis remained on the bench.

Morten Rasmussen scored both goals for the visitors from the penalty spot, with Amini's header into the penalty area in the 68th minute leading to handball and a spot-kick as AGF doubled their lead.

'Half a dream come true' - Amini ready to justify Socceroos selection

The win took AGF to within a win of securing their spot in next season's Superliga as they head into the final round before potential promotion-relegation play-offs.

This season has seen the Superliga introduce a new - and rather complicated - structure that saw the 14-team competition split in March.

The top six clubs were left to compete for the championship, while the bottom eight clubs were split into two groups to fight against relegation.

The top two from each of those groups at the end of this weekend's matches will be safe, while the bottom two will head into a series of play-offs.

Amini stars on AGF debut

One club will eventually be automatically relegated, while two other clubs will have to play two-legged ties against second-tier teams to decide who plays in the Superliga in 2017-18.

AGF (34 points) rose above Viborg (33) in Pool 2, while Silkeborg (35) can still be caught by Amini and Co.

Silkeborg must win at AaB on Sunday to avoid the relegation play-offs, while AGF can pounce if that doesn't happen and secure safety with a home win over Viborg.

Esbjerg - where Australians Awer Mabil and Brent McGrath play - are already certain of playing in the relegation play-offs as they four points adrift at the bottom of Pool 1.
