Former African footballers are set to renew their rivalry on the field of play between April and May this year

Southern African football legends will face Western African football legends in a charity event later this year.

The match will be played over two legs. The first encounter will take place in Lagos, Nigeria on the 8th of April, with the return leg scheduled to take place in South Africa on May 6, 2017.

The venue for the second match is yet to be confirmed, but it is likely to be played either in the Western Cape or Gauteng province.

According to African Football Legends Organisation, football icons such as former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba and former Cameroon captain Samuel Eto’o will take part in the two-legged encounter.

The Southern African team will include Kalusha Bwalya, Manuel Bucuane, Lucas Radebe, Benni McCarthy, Phil Masinga, Dispy Selolwane and Doctor Khumalo among others, while the likes of Drogba, Eto’o, Jay-Jay Okocha, Michael Essien and Abedi Pele Ayew will feature for the Western African side.

The purpose of the game is to help raise funds for the Nwankwo Kanu Heart Foundation and Nelson Mandela Foundation.

General secretary Mohammed Mustapha said apart from raising funds for the two organisations, they also wanted to reunite all the iconic legends on the continent.

“The venue for the second match hasn’t been confirmed as yet, but Gauteng and Western Cape have shown interest in hosting the match. We’re still talking to the two provinces,” Mustapha was quoted as saying by Isolezwe.

“Apart from raising funds for the two foundations, we also wanted to reunite these football legends,” he concluded.
