Afful eyes USA scalp in international friendly

Ghana defender Harrison Afful says the Black Stars are hoping to defeat the United States of America in an international friendly to revenge a defeat they suffered at the hands of the Yanks in 2014.

The game has been scheduled for July 1 at the East Hartford Stadium in Connecticut after Ghana's friendly match with Mexico on June 28.

''You know that last game in the 2014 World Cup, USA beat us so we’re just looking forward to having a great game against them this time around," Afful said.

''I think Connecticut is a perfect place to play such a friendly game, especially, for some of us who are playing here in America. Hopefully, we’ll get a chance and maybe revenge our previous defeat by beating them this time around,'' he added.

Black Stars new coach Kwesi Appiah will be using the game to assess his players ahead of the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers. Ghana have picked only a point from their opening two games and sit five points behind leaders Egypt.

Appiah's side will face Congo in a double header in August before hosting Egypt at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
