Our good friends at Opta have complied all the numbers and stats you need to assess the teams’ chances ahead of today’s Afcon first semi-final  clash at Stade d'Angondje.

-   These sides are meeting in the African Cup of Nations for the third time; Burkina Faso are yet to win against Egypt in this tournament (L2).

-   In fact, these two nations have been involved in an AFCON semi-final before; Egypt claiming a 2-0 victory at this stage of the 1998 competition.

-   The Pharaohs have never lost to Burkina Faso (W4 D2) with Abdallah El Said scoring both goals for Egypt in their most recent encounter with Burkina Faso (2-0, February 2016).

-   Burkina Faso have the opportunity to equal their longest run of clean sheets in the African Cup of Nations (three games) but they have never managed to record one against Egypt in six previous attempts.

-   Burkina Faso have reached the semi-final stage of the African Cup of Nations for the second time in their last three attempts (defeated in the 2013 final) whilst Egypt have now progressed to this phase in each of their last four appearances in the tournament (2006, 2008 & 2010).

-   Egypt have not conceded a single goal across their four matches so far in the 2017 AFCON (three group games and quarter-final); the Pharaohs were in fact, the only nation to keep three clean sheets during the 2017 group stages.

-   Five of Egypt’s last six goals in the African Cup of Nations have come between the 80th and 90thminute marks.

-   Burkina Faso’s last four shots on target have resulted in a goal in the 2017 African Cup of Nations.

-   Five of the six goals recorded by Burkina Faso have come from different players in the 2017 AFCON; only Junior Kabananga (DR Congo, three) has scored more times than Burkina Faso’s Prejuce Nakoulma (twice).
