Afcon MVP Bassogog completes China switch

Danish outfit Aalborg Boldspilklub have sold attacker Christian Bassogog to Chinese Super League club Henan Jianye FC for a club record transfer fee.

Bassogog introduced himself to the football world with a series of eye catching performances which subsequently saw him voted MVP at the recent Africa Cup of Nations spectacle in Gabon where he helped Cameroon to their first continental title since 2002.

The 21-year-old leaves AaB after one year and five months since arriving from Wilmington Hammerheads FC. His brief spell saw him feature 30 times and scored four goals but did enough to impress Hugo Broos who included him in Cameroon’s 23-man squad for the Afcon.

After passing his medical, Bassogog became both the most expensive player - 6 Million Euros- in Jianye’s history as well as breaking the record for a deal involving a Danish Super League club.

Henan finished 13th in their previous  Super League campaign and Bassogog becomes their second capture from the Danish topflight after they snatched defender, Edigeison Gomes from Esbjerg two years ago.

He becomes the second Cameroonian in the Chinese top flight as he joins Indomitable Lions legend Stephane M’Bia who plays for Hebei CFFC.

Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o is also rumored to be on his way to the Asian country.
