Acheampong stars but Tianjin Teda suffer home loss

Frank Acheampong was on the scoresheet as Tianjin Teda suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Shandong Luneng in Friday’s Chinese Super League contest.

The Ghana international continued from where he stopped last weekend where he netted the lone goal that propelled Uli Stielike’s side past Changchun Yatai by grabbing the curtain raiser at the Teda Football Stadium.

In the 59th minute, Acheampong broke the deadlock from the penalty spot.

The attacker was upended after getting on to the end of an incisive John Obi Mikel pass, the former Anderlecht player then picked himself up to dispatch through the middle.

However, their visitors rallied back with Junmin Hao levelling proceedings in the 79th minute before star forward Graziano Pelle assisted a stoppage-time winner from Xinghan Wu.

Acheampong, now on nine league goals and an assist, featured for the entire duration along with skipper Mikel, who was cautioned in the 89th minute.

The loss saw Teda drop to the eight spot in the league log after failing to add to their 15 points accrued last week while Xiaopeng Li's side climbed to the top.
